Library Association and Bibliophile

The Coe College Library Association was founded in the 1988-1989 school year during the renovation and expansion of Stewart Memorial Library. It began with 433 founding members.  It is a voluntary association of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends of Coe, all of whom agree to purchase at least one book a year for the library collections.  The renovation of the library created room for growth and the members of the CCLA dedicated themselves to the goal of expanding the library's holdings so as to make it one of the finest liberal arts undergraduate libraries in the country.  Since its inception the Association has contributed in excess of $1,000,000 to purchase library materials.  Gifts from Association members for endowment to support the library in perpetuity total more than $2,250,000. 

The Bibliophile, a newsletter for members of the Coe College Library Association, is published twice a year.  Its goal is to inform the College community about new acquisitions of books and/or art in the Stewart Memorial Library and relate other developments which strengthen the quality of library service.

Library Spaces

There are many spaces in the library available for use by students, staff and faculty. These can be used for formal training and learning or study and contemplation.

The following are available on a first come first served basis:

Knapp Room - 1st floor in the             Prochobradsky Reading Room
Bodey Room- 2nd floor
Eaton Room - 2nd floor
Small group - study rooms - 2nd floor
Media Group Study #13 - basement

The following spaces must be reserved for use with the individual listed.

Richter Room

On First Floor, it has a large conference table that will seat 14 with plenty of space for extra chairs. A lovely reception area. Contact Cheri Pettibone x8023 to reserve.

Engle Room

On the second floor, it will seat up to 10 around the small conference table. Contact Cheri Pettibone x8023 to reserve.

Perrine Gallery

On second floor. it is a lovely open space that can be set up for many different occasions; receptions, dinners, lectures, displays. Contact Cheri Pettibone x8023 to reserve.

Individual Study carrels

Located on second & third floors. These areas are great for use with extended research projects. Contact Sandy Blanchard x8595 to reserve.

Classroom

On the first floor, is completely equipped as a "smart" classroom. Will comfortably seat 20. Contact Katelyn Wazny x8017 or Harlene Hansen x8016 to reserve.

Audiovisual

The Audiovisual (AV) Department has two spaces available in the library, manages Kesler Lecture Hall, in Hickok, and Coe's Television studio. For more information please see AV's facilities page. To reserve one of these spaces contact Laura Riskedahl x8211 or Linda Hummel x8584 to reserve.

General Books - 28 days with one renewal Whipple Browsing - 21 days Periodicals - 3 days

Overdue fines:

Fines will be charged for overdue material. Contact Head Of Circulation, Sandy Blanchard (sblancha@coe.edu, x8595), for further information.

Interlibrary Loan:

Loan Period:

The loan period is determined by the lending library. It can be as short as 10 days or as long as 8 weeks. This date is prominently displayed on the label affixed to the front of the borrowed item. Renewals may be allowed but need to be approved by the lending library.

Overdue Fines:

Fines are charged at the rate of $ .50 per day. Lost books will also be charged a processing fee plus the cost of book replacement as determined by the lending library.
